☆A sense of urgency/crisis(危機感)

“A sense of urgency/crisis“

There is a gap in the sense of urgency between the central government and the local governments in dealing with the Covid-19 crisis. Amidst the unprecedented fear of the spread of the virus, how on earth can the central government promote the “Go Traveling” program to stimulate the national economy? If they seek to priorize the economy, why didn’t they implement various safety measures beforehand, for example, requiring a PCR test to prevent the spread of the virus (like what they did in Taiwan and Singapore)? Furthermore, the “Go Traveling” campaign has confused us by ostensibly allowing us to believe that COVID-19 is under control. The local governments are now becoming increasingly concerned about the reluctance of the central government to take appropriate safety measures in its myopic prioritization of the economy. With the eventual outcome of vaccine implementation still an unknown, epoch-defining measures addressing both economic and safety issues on the same scale as the American “New Deal” of the 1930’s are now what is required. The central and local governments need to come up with a plan together, now.

☆Happy New Year!

JETS Academyでは異文化交流・歴史・社会事象について豊富な知識・経験を有する講師陣を軸に、Content-based method(英語を道具として使って様々な事を学び、自分の意見を言えるようになること。)

Happy New Year!
I am pleased to inform you that this year marks the 15th Anniversary of the founding of JETS Academy. On this festive occasion, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to everyone who made this possible. In retrospect, our “English Salon”, launched 12 years ago and designed to promote active discussions on a wide spectrum of topics, has proved most effective and successful in making students aware of ongoing social issues, culture, history, business, politics, movies, cooking, books, travel, music, art, to name a few topics, in Japan and the world. We will continue to encourage students to bring “food for thoughts” to discussion tables and share their thoughts with highly experienced teacher(s) serving as facilitator(s). We will continue to be further committed to making our “English Salon” a perfect venue for those who are interested in exchanging views on global issues and becoming active members of the global community. In this respect, I am now attaching more importance to writing skills with particular attention to the development of critical thinking skills. As well, if you are interested in strengthening grammar and writing skills (required by EIKEN Pre-2nd-1st 、TOEFL 、TOEIC examinations), please let me know. Further, as a part of our content-based method approach, we have started music classes (Jazz Workshop and Gospel Workshop) where students can learn music in English, using English as a tool of communication. Also, we started some English language volunteer activities providing student interaction with international patients at a hospital in Kobe. Regrettably, although some of our activities are currently suspended due to the spread of Covid-19, please rest assured that these activities will resume when the crisis subsides, let us hope in the immediate future. My ultimate goal is to make JETS Academy an ideal place to learn various skills in English, to exchange views/ideas with people from different countries, and hopefully continue to nurture active membership in the global community. Your continued support will be greatly appreciated. Wishing you a happy, healthy, and fantastic 2021!

☆Happy Holidays!

We’ll be closed from December the 29th to January the 4th. Happy holidays!! Stay safe, stay healthy!

Despite many hardships imposed by the covid-19 crisis, there has been a bright side to the story. Sensible limitations on physical proximity gave me a chance to build a remote-lesson scheme (online, offline, and both) and to ponder ways in which to construct classes/systems more in tune with a “new value-system” post crisis. Thank you very much for your all-out cooperation throughout the year!
