今日は、母校(神戸女学院）の創立150周年記念式典に参加させていただきました。創立・運営にご尽力されたダッドレー家、デフォレスト家のご親族の方々も、はるばるアメリカからご出席くださり、式典は盛大に執り行われました。

講堂では、音楽部の在校生によるオーケストラ演奏が披露され、その生き生きとした素晴らしい演奏に感動しました。また、石破首相からのビデオメッセージも紹介されました。お祖母様が第一期卒業生であり、お母様も卒業生でいらっしゃるとのことで、大変驚きました。

めぐみ会館（同窓会館）では、第5代院長デフォレスト先生が所有していたアメリカ・Estey社（1872年製）のオルガン（同窓会館所蔵）を囲んで聖歌を歌い、当時の歴史を感じるひとときとなりました。

学校の長い歴史と伝統の重みを改めて感じる機会になりました。素晴らしい出会いが沢山あった母校に対して感謝の気持ちでいっぱいです。  今後も心の通った少人数制の女子大としてさらに飛躍することを願わずにはおれません。

Today, I had the honor of attending the 150th anniversary ceremony of my alma mater.
Members of the Dudley and DeForest families, who made great contributions to the school’s founding and development, also attended from the United States, and the event was held in a truly grand manner.

We gathered around the Estey organ (manufactured in 1872, preserved in Megumi Kaikan, the Alumni Hall), once owned by the fifth principal, Miss DeForest, and sang a hymn together — a moving moment that brought the school’s early history to life.

In the auditorium, the current students of the Faculy of Music, performed several orchestral pieces, and their performance was truly magnificent. Also, a video message from Prime Minister Ishiba was presented, and I was greatly surprised to learn that his grandmother was a member of the first graduating class and his mother is also an alumna.

The ceremony reminded me once again of the school’s long history and rich tradition, and I was filled with heartfelt gratitude for having had the opportunity to study at such a wonderful institution where I had so many wonderful encounters. As a women’s university distinguished by its attentive, small-group education, I sincerely wish for its continued growth and prosperity.
